#4 Attempted again.....

I tried again Friday to give blood and had the same problem. They can hit the vein but the blood just stops coming out. After the second arm (yes I let them stick them both) did the same thing they decided to force the blood through the line, to see if they could tell what it was doing. Even though they have anti-coagulate in the line this is how fast my blood was clotting.

Yes, the worm looking part is my blood. Apparently I have an extremely high platelet count and it is making my blood clot ridiculously fast. I'm thinking this can't be too healthy for me. So I am making an appointment with the doctor and am back to exercising and eating better ASAP. In the meantime I will leave you with the picture of the bruises I got for my effort. I really wanted to be able to give.

  1. I do the same thing! sometimes I have been stuck 4 or 5 times, not to give blood but just for a blood test. they will get the tube in and get just almost how much they need for said test than it collapses! akkk I feel for you!

  2. Oh girl, I have the SAME problem!! They can NEVER find a vein in my arms. They usually have to drag out the butterfly needle and that hurts so badly - especially in my hands, where they've been forced to go because I am apparently veinless in my arms. =S

  3. My blood flows really fast, but I am not allowed to donate blood anymore because I am anemic. It reallu sucks, too, because I always felt so good about myself when I donated blood.

  4. Uh!! Poor You!! I've tried to donate, but the Red Cross' needles are too large to fit into my veins (and they won't get smaller.) The lady drawing blood shoved the needle around (under my skin) three times before I threatened to pass out. It's frustrating.

  6. Oh goodness you poor thing, I really hope your arm bruises have healed by now. Everytime I get blood drawn my arms look the same as yours did. Next time ask them to take it from your hand. The puncture hurts a bit more but they usually get it on the first try and the blood flows easier. Very nice of you to give blood by the way!

  7. Like you I bruise like crazy and I ALWAYS have problems giving blood because it stops flowing so now I'm like...why even try?!

BTW...Stopping by via SITS! LOVE your blog look!! Did you create it yourself or use a template?

  8. Hello - Just popping over from SITS! Wow that is crazy your blood clots so much! I think it is a great idea to get it checked out. I wanted to give you a piece of advice, if the Dr tries to put you on a blood thinner, make sure you do your homework about the medication before taking it, and get a Second Opinion! The only reason I encourage this is because my Dad was on a blood thinner called Coumadin and he trusted his Dr that it was good for him. It is made out of warfarin which is a main ingredient in rat poison. He died last year suddenly, after 2 years of being on it. His liver had growths and just shut down. The liver acts as a filter for everything we put into our bodies. Our family believes coumadin was what lead to my Dad's death. He was only 59. I don't mean to write a novel or to scare you. Just do your research on blood thinners and what your options are. Best of luck! If you have any questions feel free to message me. - Tamara

  9. Yikes! It's been a long time since I gave blood. Probably time for me to do that again one of these days. I hope nothing is wrong. I'll check back! :-)

  10. Oh my, I'm a big proponent of blood donation, but I have to admit, if it was that hard for me, I'd probably give up.

I keep having to cancel my appointments/get declined due to always having a cold. Yuck.

  11. Nice! It is kinda weird for your blood to be clotting like that. I'll be interested to hear what you find out from the doctor.

  12. I would ask your doctor about this too. There are some situations you would not want to have thicker blood, as it is more prone to clots. My 18 year old daughter is on Warfarin. She will be on it for life. She has a mechanical heart valve and it is standard to give a blood thinner in this situation.

My arms bruise like yours, every time I get blood drawn. I have only given a few times and each time, I get sick, so I don't feel I can do it anymore.
