Washing Machine Blues

My washer started acting funny, then started kicking off and then completely quit working. So my Sweet Hubby decided to fix it and he did. He really did! I was quite impressed. It was my fault, I suppose, although I don't see it that way. It was all of the stuff that they leave in their pockets and yes I could technically avoid this problem. With 6 people in this house do you know how much time I would spend checking pockets though? You would not believe the stuff that came out of that drain but I have proof.

Do you see the little spoon? I have no idea where that came from, I have never seen such a thing before. There are paper clips, drill bits, nails, a ton of change, keys and who knows what some of that stuff is. Lovely isn't it. So now it is up and running again with minimal problems getting it fixed(if you don't count me opening the door -it's a front loader- with water still in it that would be no problems). I knew he was good for something. Just kidding honey. Your good for a lot of things and you know it!!

  1. The little spoon looks like a taster spoon from an ice cream shop. That is too funny!

  2. Holy cow that's a lot of stuff...guess that'll do it.

    Have a fun day!

  3. Oh my goodness. Where is this mysterious drain? I don't know if my washer has one. If it does I've never checked it. Now I'm wondering what kinds of oddities are in my washer!

    ReplyDelete
  4. We got a brand new front loader... two days after the warranty expired, it stopped working just like yours. The problem was the same, too! I wonder if front loaders just have issues with their filtering system?!?! By the way, I think I left that spoon in there.

  5. Looks like when my Daddy fixed our washer! With 9 people in the house though it was a much bigger pile :P

    ReplyDelete
  6. Okay, that is hilarious! And you can bet my washing machine crap catcher doesn't look like that. No sir'eeee.

    HAHAHHAHAHAHA!

OMG. I'm kidding! It totally would. I'm a chronic pocket ignorer.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I so feel you! I just got the new high efficiency washer and dryer because my old ones couldn't get 'fixed' any more.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Wow, better go check our machine!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Wow! That is some kind of mess you have there!! Of course, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if my washing machine drain has the same kind of "collection". I find money, paper clips, and nails all the time. I don't think I've ever found a spoon. That would be a first for me. :)

    Have a great day!!

  10. HAA That is classic! The other day I heard banging in the washer and then in the dryer. I was too lazy to go check and see what it was until it was finished and I folded the clothes. It was the sink stopper...you know the big metal thing to plug the kitchen sink! I have no idea how that ever got in there!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Wow. I was wondering how I could get that kind of collection.
Congrats on being featured on SITS. Have a great day and enjoy the comment love.

  12. Yikes! Now I'm wondering what my washer might be hiding!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Wow! I think I am going to tell my husband to go clean out ours!

Congrats on your feature blogger day!

    ReplyDelete
  14. I can so relate, as I went thru 3 washing machines within a few years.

Congrats on your SITS feature :D

    ReplyDelete
  15. That's awesome. Maybe someone in your house is a freelance ice cream sampler with that spoon? Enjoy your SITS day!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Makes me wonder what is floating around in mine... I necer check mine either. Happy SITS day!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Oh my. I am worried now about what might be clanking around in my washer. Didn't know they could eat that much stuff.
    Congrats on being featured! :)

  18. Oh, my son fills his pockets with all manner of belongings. I know that if I only check his pockets I will be saving myself an ordeal later.
I also have to frisk him before sending him off to school.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I never check pockets to mine probably looks like that too.

    ReplyDelete
  20. holy cow, you got all of that out of your drain?

I don't even want to check mine now.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I've been checking the kids pockets routinely after findng my son's MP3 player in the washing machine - no longer working of course! Glad the machine could be fixed! :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. I've never had such a good haul, but I like it when it's cash (we have plastic notes that survive the wash).

    ReplyDelete
  23. I have a policy: I don't check pockets, unless it's the kids' pants. I can barely stand to do laundry, much less take the time to make sure there's not a spare pen shoved in some jeans. About a month ago, I washed my husband's cell phone...now he does his own laundry (why didn't I think of that sooner?).

    Congrats on your SITS day!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Here from SITS! Glad to hear your washing machine is working again. After this I'm wondering if I should check out drain too...

    ReplyDelete
  25. I feel the same way! Why should I have to check pockets? Do it yourself before you take the pants off! I've only found coins, paper and gum/mints in my washer... no little spoons! LOL

    Happy SITS day!

    ReplyDelete
  26. How long do you think it took for that much stuff to accumulate?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Looks like someone had ice cream...that's a sample spoon. There was A LOT of stuff in there...we usually find gum and love notes in our teenagers pockets. And the rule is we can read them if he leaves them! LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Wow, this is what I'll think of from now on whenever I'm tempted to cheat and not check pockets!

Happy SITS day, and thanks for this incredibly effective public service announcement!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Oh I hate to see what could be dug out of mine. Maybe the dead sea scrolls. The burial mask of Agamemnon, the Shroud of Turin.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I do not check pockets either and it usually ends up making for good blogging material. I didn't realize stuff can get out of the drum and into the drain......yikes.

    Off to read more!

    ReplyDelete
  31. That really is pretty amazing. :) My sister left chapstick in her pocket so much in high school that my mom made her start doing her own laundry. Chapstick in the dryer is nasty!

    Happy SITS day!

    ReplyDelete
  32. how familiar is this? I am SO bad about checking pockets. I've washed and dried 20 dollar bills before.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I flat out refuse to check pockets! I bet mine looks like that too!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yep. That'll do it. I hate to think of what kind of junk we'd find in ours.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh no! I've done that before but it was with a yellow crayon- generic brand- so I never got it off the clothes and guess where it came from: my husband's shirt pocket. I checked all the pants but didn't think of checking his work shirts!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I've never discovered a spoon in my laundry appliances, but I did once kill our dryer with the underwire from one of my bras. Yep, I have Deadly Brassieres - stand back, these babies are lethal! :)

    Cheers!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Wow! I'm afraid of what would come out of our washer...thank goodness for a handy husband!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yup, definitely an ice cream taster. Oh yum, I wonder what flavor it was!

Gotta say, I've got pretty good checkers at my house. I should be more appreciative, huh?

    ReplyDelete
  39. that is some crazy stuff. maybe that is where all the missing socks hide too.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh my! I hate to see what would come out of my washer!! I have 4 children as well, so I know how you feel! I have little ones though and I find crayons, rocks, and woodchips ALL the time! They have woodchips on the playgrounds at school and daycare if you were wondering!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Crack me up. I haven't looked, but I'm sure the contents of ours would be quite similar. Isn't it amazing how even though we think we've gone through every pocket, something random always makes its way into the wash? The little spoon looks like the ones that they use to sample ice cream at Baskin Robbins. Ummmm. Baskin Robbins.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Oh my gosh! YOu should take that little spoon and all that change and go buy yourself some icecream!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Whoa. My mother's washing machine is now my washing machine. I'm just a LITTLE curious to see what it's hiding in it's mouth now...

    ReplyDelete
  44. Ewww...I'm surprised you didn't find a kitten in there. ;)

Happy SITS day!! Bask in the greatness that is SITS. :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. the things the laundry monster put in there always amazes me. i wonder if he s related to the sock monster??

    ReplyDelete
  46. Oh no! I hope today you don't find anything else in there to ruin your SITS day!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Wow...I usually find the pocket paraphernalia IN my washing machine, and there is usually quite a bit! Now I am wondering how much is hiding out where I can't see it. :-/ Some of the interesting things that have gone through my washer include a bullet (I know, scary!), ear plugs (noticing a pattern? Military wife I am!), and one of those free tubes of cologne. My change jar has been generously enriched also. :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. That is pretty funny... I always forget to check pockets, but my hubs has a habit of leaving important things in there... Like a wallet... money... and appointment paperwork! GAH! I've been trying to be better, but honestly?!?! Why should the people who wash, dry, fold and put away the laundry have to be the pocket-checkers, too?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Congratulations on being the SITSta of the day. I NEVER empty pockets, the best thing I found was a $50 bill. Just today I found a quarter. I wonder if I could find some more interesting things with some effort.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I never check pockets either - I've also never found anything interesting either. Oh and it does help that Hubby still does his own laundry!! Its great!! Grats to your SITS day!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. comin over from sits... wow- who would've thought all of that stuff could possibly be found! I don't even dare check mine out! (checking pockets is the worst! And there's only 2 of us... I can't imagine checking pockets for 6!)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Oh, my! It looks like some sort of lost and found. It makes me wonder what is lurking in my washer!! Funny.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Haha! My husband owns an air-duct cleaning business - you would be AMAZED at some of the stuff he has pulled out of dryer vents and ducts. I mean weird. :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. Holy Hannah!!!!

    Nice to meet you!!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Wow don't even want to think about it- the things I find in the bottom of the washer (from chapstick to flowers to everything in between) are bad enough.
Glad you got it working again with minimal muss and fuss.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Way funny! Guess you didn't find any socks..so where DO the socks go?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Ha- now you got me thinking about all the stuff that might be in my washer drain. Those front loaders are tricky though. My mom had one that she thought was the greatest thing she had ever seen, and that thing ended up going up to meet its maker shortly after it was purchased. The one time I was over there helping her with laundry and I forgot about the "don't open the door when it's running" rule. I always end up throwing things in that I missed. Let's just say that it was a rather messy adventure with the washing machine that day and my mother was not pleased.

Oh, love your blog. Glad you were featured!

    ReplyDelete
  58. LOL, did you know you were missing so many keys??

    ReplyDelete
  59. Oh my goodness. I have never seen so much stuff come out of a washer. A dryer maybe but I didn't know a washer kept all that. :-)

At least your hubby was sweet enough to fix it.

    Happy SITS day!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Classic. Every week, I pick up a neat little gift from the washer/dryer. This week, it was my son's flash drive from school...washed and dried, but holy crap, it still works!

    Happy SITS day!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I'm afraid to know what could be lurking in my washer drain. Happy SITS day!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Hope you are having a great SITS day. I don't think I want to know what has ended up in our drain from the washing machine

    ReplyDelete
  63. Drill bits and nails huh? Maybe the hubby needs to take some responsibility in its breakage lol. I don't even want to know whats in my drain. Small animals most likely. HAPPY SITS DAY!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Mine probably would look like that too. I always find stuff that is still in the washer.

    ReplyDelete
  65. That's a lot of stuff! Makes me wonder what might be hiding in my washing machine! Gross! At least it is fixed now and you made a little change too. lol

    ReplyDelete
  66. glad it's fixed! I'm not so good at the cleaning out the pockets thing. I'm forever picking pieces of tissue out of the lint dryer and often find change, barrettes and other random items. :)

    ReplyDelete
  67. thankfully my front loader locks the door automatically when its running. :) we do find mysterious items though- its tough to clean pockets with 5 kids. I feel ya!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Wow...that's alot of stuff. Glad that it's fixed. I couldn't imagine if my washer was broken, I use it constantly.

    ReplyDelete
  69. As a mother of four wonderful, junk-in-the-pocket, loving children, I can appreciate this post. I'm sure theres things in my washer I'd rather not even know about. Kudos to your very talented hubby for fixing the washer. I don't think I could function if I didnt have my washer. Not for a minute. I guess it's the little things I take for granted. Here's to fixed washers, mechanically inclinded hubbys and curious kids! Have a wonderful Wednesday (or what's left of it)!

    Happy SITS Day,
    Shelly

    ReplyDelete
  70. I am so morbidly curious to go look in my washing machine drain now! That is too cool---in a really not too cool way :)!

    Happy SITS day!

And I am LOVING your purple/brown color combination here!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Those handy-men are worth their weight in pasta, aren't they? I wouldn't trade mine for any amount of chocolate (cash, maybe :-p)

    ReplyDelete
  72. Oh, when they invent a washer with a built-in pocket emptier, I will be the first in line to purchase it...I've blogged about my own laundry woes before, and most recently washed two ball point pens with a load. The entire load was ruined.

    grr.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Oh my!! I didn't even know a washing machine had a place where all those things could go and hide! I always check pockets and am glad I do. I keep any money I find, but the main thing I find are tissues from my own pockets. I did find ketchup packets one time in my husband's shorts, could you imagine the mess that would have made?!

    ReplyDelete
  74. yeah, checking pockets is not my thing either...i just cross my fingers and hope there's no lipstick hidden in there somewhere:)

    ReplyDelete
  75. Congrats on being the featured blogger! I'm here from SITS! Love the design on your blog!

    ReplyDelete
  76. I'm so jealous you have such a handyman! I thought my dryer crapped out on Sunday and my hubby just shrugged his shoulders and said "guess we're shopping for a new one".

Congrats on being SITS FB today!

    ReplyDelete
  77. Enjoy your SITS FB!

    ReplyDelete
  78. That's a lot of stuff, and not just tissues (like what I pull out of my laundry). wow!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Are you serious? It makes me wonder whats in my washing machine drain! Happy SITS day!

    ReplyDelete
  80. I can't even empty pockets when I do laundry and I live alone!

    ReplyDelete
  81. I can't even empty pockets when I do laundry and I live alone!

    ReplyDelete
  82. Oh man, I'm always washing clothes with things still in the pockets. I've washed my husband's wallet TWICE! I'm a duffas. Oh wait, I guess he is for leaving it in his pants in the first place right?
I'm glad your washer is up and running again!
    Happy SITS day!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Ours seems to collect a lot of things too! I do not check pockets, I leave it up the the person that owns the clothes.:)
    Congrats on being Saucy.
    Cheryl

    ReplyDelete
  84. WOW...all of that really came out of you washing machine drain? Makes me curious now to see what our may have!!!

    ReplyDelete
  85. I have a burning desire to check the drain in my washer. Or, let's just say my husband is getting ready to have that desire LOL! Happy SITS day!

    ReplyDelete
  86. Happy SITS!

That shot looks like my son's pockets at wash time!

    ReplyDelete
  87. I feel your pain. It seems like every time I miss a pocket, that is the one hiding all of the treasure! You hubby sounds like a keeper. I'm glad everything turned out OK. And you got an entertaining article out of it, too!

    ReplyDelete
  88. Hmmm. All I've got is WOW. Although we have a RULE that pockets go in empty or the mommy laundry goes on strike. Unless it's change in which case mommy takes a cut ;) I love the collection!

    ReplyDelete
  89. Wow! All I get is a little bit of change and maybe a couple buttons now and then!

    ReplyDelete
  90. Unbelievable!!!
    That's a lot of loot.
    Happy SITS day.

    ReplyDelete
  91. you're lucky...i keep washing my chapstick. Laundry flavored chapstick - not pleasant. =)

    ReplyDelete
  92. Ooh, I'm about ready to try to find this drain on the washing machine in the basement. I doubt it's ever been cleaned. Wonder what treasures I could find?

    Melanie

    ReplyDelete
  93. I love your blog - so cute! Good lucky with your journey toward a healthier life. I'm still trying to figure that one out too! You are amazing to be a mother to 4 children. I'm in awe. Love the story about the washing machine too! Who knew?!?

    ReplyDelete
  94. Your blog is very cute! I hate to even think what would be in the drain for my washer - ugh! I hate checking my son's pockets - I'm still traumatized from the time when my mom checked my little brother's pockets (he was about 5, I think) and she found 2 dead frogs in there!!!

    ReplyDelete
  95. I have a rule that everything I find in the dryer belongs to me! Ok... well at least all the cash. Laundry does pay :)

    ReplyDelete
  96. If I hear anything in Hubby's pockets as I'm doing laundry, I just leave the clothes on the floor until he notices.... He'll run out of pants and ask what's going on... I'll send him down to the basement and make him empty his own darn pockets... drives me NUTS.

    ReplyDelete
  97. That's hilarious. I think that's one of those little tasting spoons. Happy SITS day a day late!
